Steps of LASIK
Step 1: Flap Creation
The first surgical step of LASIK is the creation of the corneal flap. Our San Clemente LASIK doctors use the IntraLase™ laser to create the thinnest and most precise flap possible so the underlying corneal tissue can be accessed. This is referred to as bladeless LASIK.
Step 2: Correcting the Corneal Imperfections
Next, the flap is lifted and an excimer laser is used to reshape the underlying corneal tissue to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. Using WaveScan® based digital technology our doctors perform Wavefront-guided Custom LASIK to remove precise, tiny amounts of corneal tissue with microscopic detail.
Step 3: Flap Repositioning
Finally, the flap is folded back into place where it bonds quickly. Healing is rapid with bladeless LASIK and most people can return to work the next day.
The LASIK procedure takes about 5 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis. Most patients say they have no pain with LASIK and most can return to work the next day.
